Connected in The Word 9-4-25
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
My world is filled with JOYFUL NOISES! Sometimes it’s the wind blowing through the trees, the ocean waves crashing on the shore, or snow falling in the woods (Yes, you can hear it). Babies make joyful noises – A giggle, a first word, or even crying in church (I love babies in church). Loving words from my wife, a phone call from my kids, or the phrase, “I forgive you” from anyone are joyful noises in my life. The sound of a congregation singing, someone playing the piano, or my favorite song on the radio fill my heart with joy. The list could go on and on!
We humans make lots of JOYFUL NOISES that sometimes sound very strange. Just find a video online of a couple finding out they are having their first baby, parents being surprised by a soldier son or daughter returning home, or the fans at Fenway Park cheering on the Red Sox. Joyful noises come in all shapes and sizes!
But what does it mean to make a JOYFUL NOISE to the LORD? One obvious answer is the singing and music we make in church as we worship. However, church is not the only place we worship God! Christians also worship God (Make a JOYFUL NOISE) when they faithfully fulfill their vocations in life, serve their neighbor in love, and speak the Name of Jesus. The JOYFUL NOISES we naturally “breathe out” are the result of the JOY-FILLED NAME OF JESUS first being “breathed into” us! Today, let the Holy Spirit make some noise in your life!
