Connected in The Word 9-24-25
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 1 Tim. 6:10
What do you crave? Maybe it’s money, but maybe it’s something else. I crave pizza – But that’s just me. The list of things to “crave” in this world is endless. This world is full of all kinds of wonderful things, and we should recognize that they are all gifts from God. The problem of CRAVING is not found in the item we crave. The problem of CRAVING is found in our own hearts. There’s nothing wrong with money, pizza, or anything else. These are all gifts from God. The problem is when we love, crave, and set these things up as our false gods – Essentially worshiping the “good things” instead of the Giver of the “good things”!
So, let’s look at the gift of money since that’s what the verse above is talking about today. There is nothing wrong with money and wealth. I’ve known many wealthy people who recognize that their money and wealth is a gift from God that allows them to provide for their family, serve their neighbors, and glorify God. I’ve also known many “poor” people who recognize that their money and wealth is a gift from God that allows them to provide for their family, serve their neighbors, and glorify God. Some of the most generous and faithful people I know are people who see their money (whether they have a lot or a little) as a gift from God.
Rejoice in the Gifts God gives. Use them faithfully. Enjoy them. Share them. See them as an opportunity to glorify God, love others, and point people to Jesus!
