Connected in The Word 9-18-25

He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his possessions. Luke 16:1

“SUCH A WASTE!”  Have these words ever rolled across your lips or at least through your mind?  Sometimes we speak them when tragedy steals a life away too soon.  We might think them when someone with exceptional talent gets wrapped up in drugs or alcohol.  Maybe a marriage, a company, or a friendship falls apart because sin was able to get a foothold and we think SUCH A WASTE!  Anytime great “potential” good does not transform into great “kinetic” good we consider it SUCH A WASTE!

I’m not a big fan of that phrase.  It’s not that I don’t ever feel or think it – Trust me, I think quite often when I look at some of the sinful choices I make in my life.  God could daily look at me and say, “WHAT A WASTE!”  It’s true for all of us.  If you refuse to see yourself as the unfaithful servant in this parable, then you are going to have a hard time rejoicing in the Good News of the next paragraph.

Here’s the Good News (Hopefully you have ears to hear it)!  Jesus did NOT go to the cross because of your “potential” good.  Jesus went to the cross because there was NO GOOD IN YOU!  God’s beautiful creation and God’s beautiful people had been corrupted by sin.  God could have walked away and said, “WHAT A WASTE”, but instead He put on skin and walked to the cross and out of the grave.  Through that redemptive work, you have been filled with the “kinetic” good of Jesus!  Your life is not a waste because your life has been redeemed by Jesus!  So, get out there and do some good – Not because you have great potential, but because you’ve been filled with the Kinetic Good of Jesus!
