Connected in The Word 9-11-25
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief. 1 Timothy 1:15
Is it possible for there to be healing in a world where people fly planes into buildings, slaughter children, shoot people because of their political views, and spew vulgar hate online about people they’ve never met? It’s possible – But quite unlikely. Here is a simple exercise to prove my point. Take a moment to picture in your mind what the face of evil looks like. Maybe it’s a single face, or maybe it’s a group of faces. It could be someone you know or someone you’ve never met. Maybe it’s an ideology, a political position, a social issue, or even an event in history. Seriously, take a moment to do this!
If what you are picturing in your mind right now is anything but YOUR OWN FACE – Then no, there can be no healing. True healing can only begin when we can confess the Truth that Paul confesses in the verse above – Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief! True healing begins when we recognize that we are sick, broken, and horrific sinners who deserve nothing but eternal condemnation. Until you can look in the mirror and see a sinner – You will never know peace, never know healing, and never know joy.
When God gives us eyes to see the depth of OUR SIN, He also gives us eyes to see the depth of HIS LOVE! God put on skin in the person of Jesus, who went to the cross and rose form the dead to take our sin away. When I look in the mirror, I see the CHIEF OF SINNERS. But I also see someone SO LOVED and SO VALUABLE that someone was willing to die for me. Today I encourage you to look in the mirror and say these words of Truth from 1 John 1:8-9 with me, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” There may never be complete healing in our world, but God desires to heal your heart. Don’t be afraid to confess your sin – It’s the first step to peace, joy, and healing!
