Connected in The Word 8-7-25
Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. Luke 12:33b
But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Hebrews 11:16a
Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. Psalm 33:20
And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:6
The verses above all come from the Church Year assigned readings for this weekend. I couldn’t help but notice a theme. “Life is good, the best is yet to come!”
I’m sure most of you have heard the saying, “Life sucks, then you die”. These words could be spoken by someone just trying to be funny, someone with an extremely pessimistic outlook on life, or possibly someone just having a bad day. The meaning of this saying is quite clear (whether spoken as a joke or as a philosophy on life), the human existence is meaningless, filled with hardships, and then it’s over – You’re Dead! There has never been a sentence spoken in the history of the world (whether spoken as a joke or as a philosophy on life) that so clearly articulates the EXACT OPPOSITE OF EVERYTHING I AM DOWN TO MY CORE!
It's true that sometimes life sucks – A LOT! This is a broken world filled with broken people where sin and death destroy lives. But this is also a beautiful world where the evidence of God is everywhere, and the power of love, mercy, and forgiveness prove that we are more than just accidental outcomes of a cosmic soup. God has given us LIFE TODAY in and through Jesus. But He has also given us LIFE FOREVER in and through Jesus! We will have very sucky days on this side of glory, but by faith we can say – “Life is good, the best is yet to come!”
