Connected in The Word 8-20-25

Then you will begin to say, “We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.” But he will say, “I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of evil!” Luke 13:26-27

You don’t make into the Kingdom of God by hanging out with Jesus.  You don’t make it in by writing a big check to your church or favorite charity.  You don’t get into the Kingdom because you go to church, pray really hard, or read the Bible every day.  Being a faithful husband or wife, loving your children, and paying your taxes on time doesn’t get you into the Kingdom.  Working hard, being a nice person, and loving others regardless of who they are, what they believe, or what they look like doesn’t win you salvation.

I’m not suggesting that you shouldn’t hang out with Jesus.  Please, read your Bible, pray continually, and go to church.  Financially support ministry of the Gospel and give to those in need.  Pay your taxes, love others, and faithfully fulfill all your vocations in life.  However, if you think any of those things get you into the Kingdom of God – Then on the last day the Lord will look at you and say, “Depart from me, all you workers of evil!”

So, how does one get into the Kingdom?  Jesus tells us in Mark 1:15, “The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe the Gospel.”  God gets you into the Kingdom by wrapping you up in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.  Our daily confession is simply this: Lord, your steadfast love endures forever.  Have mercy on me, a sinner!
