Connected in The Word 8-13-25

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

FAITH is a big word in the Bible.  In Hebrews 11 we find a list of people who were commended for their faith.  Paul tells us in Ephesians that we are saved “by grace through faith”.  In Christianity our faith is rooted in God’s promise of salvation through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus!  Salvation is a Free Gift for all who believe.  As a matter of fact, even faith itself is a Gift from God.  1 Corinthians 12:3 reminds us that, “…no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.”

The word for faith in Greek is πίστις.  This word is derived from the verb πείθω which means persuade.  Therefore, you could think about faith as God’s Divine Persuasion!  Faith is not something I figure out or come to on my own based on reason or logic.  We have a revealed faith.  By the power of the Holy Spirit working through the Word, God opens blind eyes to see Jesus.  He replaces hearts of stones with the heart of Jesus.  He opens ears that have been plugged up with sin so that they can hear the Good News of Jesus!

I am thankful that God has opened my eyes to see Jesus.  But I know I still have a sinful nature that desires to close my eyes, cover my ears, and harden my heart.  This is why I go to church and read God’s Word regularly.  I need God to daily open my eyes, unplug my ears, and breath life into my heart.  I thank God for the saving Gift of Jesus.  I also thank God for the saving Gift of faith in all that Jesus did for me.
