Connected in The Word 8-11-25
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2
I love hiking in the woods. But let me be clear – I’m no outdoorsman! Yes, I love the outdoors and would spend every waking moment of my life outside if I could, but if you dropped me off in the middle of a forest and asked me to find my way out or survive on my own – I’d be lost forever! When it comes hiking in the woods, I’m not a trailblazer – I’m a trail follower! I keep my eyes wide open to enjoy God’s creation and to stay on the trail.
I “hike” through life much the same way. If it was up to me to navigate my way through the “forest” of this world – I’d be lost forever. Thankfully Jesus has already blazed a trail for me to follow. As I make my way through life, I just keep my eyes wide open – To see Jesus and to stay on the trail.
It should be noted that keeping my eyes fixed on Jesus does not mean being just like Jesus. I can’t cut a trail through life, into the grave, and out the other side like he did! Only Jesus can do that. He draws me into His life, death, and resurrection purely as a Gift! There are times in life when the trail gets steep, the night gets dark, and I feel like I am lost in the woods. But even then, Jesus makes His way to us and leads us through the darkness. Keep your eyes (of faith) fixed on Jesus (The Way, Truth, and Life). He is there even when you can’t see Him!
