Connected in The Word 7-28-25
“Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. John 14:8-9a
Philip wanted to see JUST A LITTLE MORE. Sometimes we’re guilty of the same thing. We want God to show us a little more, give us a little more, and let us experience JUST A LITTLE MORE – That’s all we need! However, our constant desire for God to give us just a little more is evidence that we are ignoring the beautiful Gifts that God has already given us. The greatest of those Gifts is Jesus!
Don’t get me wrong, you can go to God and ask for anything – He’s your Father (as we heard in worship this weekend). But when your joy, peace, and faith become contingent on God giving you JUST A LITTLE MORE – You will never be satisfied and completely miss the beautiful Gifts that are right in front of you. We live in a perpetually unsatisfied world. We’ve been tricked into thinking that if we had just a little more money, time, or (Fill in the blank) – Then we would be happy, satisfied, and finally be at peace. “Just a little more Lord – That will be enough!”
Here’s the Good News – God has given us MORE THAN ENOUGH! In Jesus, we have life, forgiveness of sins, and have been connected to God and a community of believers. God has placed us in His beautiful creation where He provides for us and others through us. Stop asking God for JUST A LITTLE MORE – It won’t make your guilt, sin, frustrations, and dissatisfaction with life go away. It won’t bring joy or peace. Instead, pray that God would open your eyes to see the beautiful Gifts that are right in front of you. I woke up today wishing I had just a little more time to get things done. But then God surprised me with the most amazing sunrise. I “wasted” 10 minutes standing in the parking lot just experiencing one of God’s beautiful gifts. I didn’t need JUST A LITTLE MORE time this morning – I just needed to see what was right in front of me!
