Connected in The Word 2-9-26
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17
This coming weekend we celebrate the Transfiguration of Jesus. This event took place when Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a mountain and revealed a glimpse of His glory. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. Moses and Elijah appeared with Him. Transfiguration marks the final Sunday in the Season of Epiphany. In just over week, on Ash Wednesday, we begin the Season of Lent. Here at Immanuel during Lent, our weekend sermon series will be entitled, “Whatever You Do” and will be rooted in Colossians 3:17.
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
The next 7 “Connected in The Word” devotions will explore what this Colossians text is all about as we prepare for the sermon series in Lent. Lent is a season in the church when people sometimes “give up” something they enjoy as a reminder of the sacrifice Jesus made for them. Others “add to” their regular routine during Lent like scheduled prayer time, extra Bible reading, or even a service project of some kind that serves their neighbor. These are wonderful spiritual practices. However, during Lent this year at Immanuel, we want to focus less on what you could “give up” or “add to” your daily life and instead remember that God does His work through you in “Whatever You Do” as you faithfully fulfill your various vocations in life.
So, make plans to be in worship this weekend as we celebrate the Transfiguration. Make plans to be in worship a week from Wednesday at either noon or 7:00pm as we gather for Ash Wednesday. Make plans to be in worship every weekend in Lent as we explore this glorious Truth – “Whatever You Do – God’s Love Through You”!
