You are the light of the world… Matthew 5:14
This weekend we will look at our final Mission Pillar here at Immanuel. But let’s first look back at where we have been so far. We were reminded that it is God who makes disciples and it is God who continues to disciple us, so BE DISCIPLED. Connected to Christ for Life through Word & Sacrament, we also get to LIVED CONNECTED to one another. God makes us holy in Christ, but God also makes us useful in Christ, so SERVE GENEROUSLY within the Body of Christ and out in the world. Our final Mission Pillar this coming weekend is GO BOLDLY!
What does it mean to GO BOLDLY? The Gospel of Matthew ends with Jesus saying to the disciples, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, GO MAKE DISCIPLES of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” We call this the Great Commission!
God has rescued you, connected you to Himself and to others, and has equipped you with gifts to serve and love your neighbor. Finally, being discipled, connected, and equipped – God says GO MAKE DISCIPLES! If you are a pastor, preach Christ crucified and administer the Sacraments faithfully. If you are a parent or grandparent, bring your kids to church, talk to them about Jesus, and teach them God’s Word. If you are a human being, talk with your coworkers, friends, and neighbors about God’s grace and mercy shown to us in and through Jesus! If you are a missionary in a foreign land, in your own community, or even in your own home – Take heart, Jesus promises to be with you, and remember it is God who makes disciples through Jesus!
