Connected in The Word 2-17-26
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17
At a time when many believed they must accomplish extraordinary spiritual tasks to be “holy”, Martin Luther commenting on Genesis 31:3 said, “God’s people please God even in the least and most trifling matters. For He will be working all things through you; He will milk the cow through you and perform the most servile duties through you, and all the greatest and least duties alike will be pleasing to Him.”
While you might not be milking cows this Lent, God will certainly be working through your many vocations. You may be an employee, a parent, a homeowner, a customer, a friend, even a birdwatcher. God loves the world through even the most ordinary tasks of His people.
Instead of giving up or adding something this Lent, we invite you to join us in meditating on Colossians 3:17, where Paul encourages us with these words, “WHATEVER YOU DO, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
Sarah Kortze and Angie Nitz deserve a great deal of credit for today’s devotion as well as for preparing some helpful tools to help us stay focused on our Lenten theme of “Whatever You Do”. You can choose from a bracelet, daily text reminder, a phone background, or even a card to put on your refrigerator, in your wallet, or on the dashboard of your car. These will be available after worship on Ash Wednesday or during worship this coming weekend!
