Connected in The Word 2-10-26

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

I’m a simple guy.  If someone wants to sit down and think deep thoughts with me – I’m going to drown.  Some of you might be wondering how it is then that I became a pastor, after all don’t pastors think deep thoughts all the time?  There are pastors out there who like to think deep thoughts all the time – I’m grateful for those pastors, we need those pastors, but I’m not one of those pastors!

The thing that has always drawn me to the Scriptures, the Christian faith, and to theology is the simplicity of it all.  Even as a kid growing up listening to sermons, going to Sunday School, and attending church camp – I was always struck by the fact that it all made sense!  I don’t mean that I understand everything in the Bible or that I have a grasp on all the things of God.  What I mean is that the Truth revealed in Scripture – That I am broken, but that God in His love sent Jesus to live, die, and rise for me to forgive my sins and make me whole – That’s the only thing that makes sense when I set it up against everything I see and experience in life.

So, what does that mean for my day-to-day life?  It simply means that I believe I am a sinner, I believe God loves me and sent Jesus to live, die, and rise for me, and I believe God works through me to love others and care for creation.  THIS SIMPLE TRUTH DOESN’T MAKE LIFE EASY, BUT IT DOES MAKE LIFE MAKE SENSE!  If you are looking for meaning, peace, and a life that makes sense – I encourage you to keep it simple!  Confess that you are sinful, believe that Jesus lived, died, and rose for you, and recognize that God loves and cares for people through you!  That’s the Christian Life – It’s that Simple!  As a sidenote, there are many people and groups in the world that claim to have a “Christian” message, but if their message is anything but the simple message I just shared – Be very leery of that message.
