Connected in The Word 11-12-25
But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. Malachi 4:2
I’ve never been a night person. There’s lots of reasons why I’m not a night person, but one of them is that I just don’t like the dark. Other than sleeping (which I don’t do very well anymore anyway) I see no good reason for darkness to even exist. As much as I dislike the darkness that comes each night, there’s another kind of darkness that I dislike even more. It is of course the darkness of sin which has stained God’s creation and poisoned the hearts of men.
Thanks to Adam and Eve, we can’t escape the darkness of sin on this side of glory. We can’t rid ourselves of the darkness in the world or the darkness in our hearts. Prisoners can’t set themselves free, darkness can’t produce light, and sinners can’t wash away their sin. The darkness of sin doesn’t just make it hard to see – The darkness of sin separates us from God and produces physical and spiritual death. So, what can we sinners do about the awful, dreadful, and deadly darkness of sin? NOTHING!
But thanks be to God that Jesus is the Light of the World. He is the Light no darkness can overcome. The Sun/Son of Righteousness has risen from the dead! The Light of the Risen Jesus forgives sin, reconciles God’s people, and sets us free to leap for joy just like little baby cows. If you live in northern Illinois, then last night you hopefully caught a glimpse of the northern lights. There amid the darkness (which I still dislike), was a beautiful light. As you deal with the darkness of sin, may you always see, rejoice in, and trust The Beautiful Light of the World – Jesus!
