Connected in The Word 10-20-25

God is our refuge and strength an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we shall not fear though the earth give way, though the mountains fall into the heart of the sea… Psalm 46:1-2

When I was a senior in high school, I had to provide information to the yearbook committee that would be included next to my senior picture.  It was not uncommon for seniors at my school to include a favorite quote as well.  I honestly found this assignment quite intimidating.  I was not a social butterfly who could include all kinds of fun memories, I didn’t really like school (especially writing), and worst of all I had no idea what to use for a favorite quote.  I hated reading, never memorized song lyrics, and the internet didn’t exist so I couldn’t even ask Google!

So, I went to the Bible.  Honestly, I wasn’t even sure what I was looking for.  As a 51-year-old pastor I still don’t think I know my Bible very well – Can you imagine how little I knew when I was just 18!  After flipping through the pages for few minutes I stumbled upon Psalm 46.  It very well could have been the first time I had ever read it, but over the years these words have been an anchor for my soul.

I have been blessed to have many “anchors” in my life.  But the greatest anchor, peace, strength, and refuge in my life continues to be the Lord who went to the cross and rose from the dead so that I might have life.  If you are dealing with trouble today, or if it feels like the earth is giving way and the mountains are falling into the sea, I encourage you to “be still” and know that the Lord is God.  I am a pastor because I desperately want people to know the peace, the refuge, and the strength I have found in Jesus!
