Connected in The Word 1-27-26

Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all… 2 Corinthians 9:13 (NASB)

Serve Generously!  God is glorified when our generosity accompanies our confession of the Gospel.  I said it in yesterday’s devotion – God makes you holy and God makes you useful.  Jesus did not live, die, and rise so you could sit as a trophy on God’s shelf.  God desires to have good use of you as He rules and reigns in and through Jesus.  God made you and God saved you so that you could Serve Generously!  It’s what human beings were designed to do.

Why does it feel good when you serve and help others?  It’s because it is divine work!  As a believer in Jesus, God is at work in you and through you to care for His creation and to love others.  Serving Generously doesn’t win you salvation.  Only Jesus can do that.  But Serving Generously is something you now get to do because Jesus has saved you.  Serving Generously isn’t a “Got To” activity, it’s a “Get To” activity.

What does Serving Generously look like?  It looks different depending on who you are and where God has placed you at this time.  It could be driving your kids to school.  It might be shoveling your neighbor’s driveway.  Maybe it means emptying the dishwasher, changing a diaper, or taking out the trash.  Maybe it means giving of your time or money at church, or using your gifts to teach Sunday School, volunteer at school, or help work at the snack bar at a basketball game.  It might even mean praying for loved ones, being nice to the nurse who changes your bandages, or thanking the person who brings you your meal at the nursing home.  If you can read this devotion, then God can have good use of you to Serve Generously in the Name of Jesus!
